trapping in hold em

In a recent online cash game I was dealt QQ in 3rd position there was a call before me blinds were 15p/25p I raised to £1 and was reraised to £3 by player in 5th position. Id been playing a tight solid game and put my opponnent on AK min but more likely AA but as I had £40 in front of me and he had another £25 I decided to call try to spike a set and get all his stack, if the queen never hit I would fold. The flop came qxx i checked then called £2. The turn seemed harmless i check raised here raising £3 bet to £10 (trying to pot commit opponent).He called the river was a king and we ended up all in as i hoped for but he never had aa it was kk and obviously I lost the pot.Did I play this hand badly? I figured its only worth calling his raise to start with If Im going to get it all if I hit so playing that hand from behind would only be profitable if when i hit i hit big. should i have pushed all in on the turn? Is it ever right to throw away a set? I feel I was just unlucky there but was I?Most players think they are just unlucky but mostly thats not true its bad play. Would you reccommend any changes I should of made to that play I never used to slow play any hand in hold em but I used to only play either with position or as the aggressor and if I thought I didnt have the best hand pre flop Id fold butthis is a new way Ive been playing taking a bigger raise than i used to in all pocket pairs as long as there is a much bigger pot to win if i connect and that made me feel I need to take the whole stack when I do connect to make these calls worth it.If I play sets to trap how often will I trap myself on the river?
